Come and join us in Wookey Churchyard by the River Axe for a really fun evening for all of the community! There'll be pizza, bar, games for all ages, and a range of stalls (Cakes/ Homegrown/ tombolas and more) opening from 5pm. Plastic ducks race down the River Axe for 5 races, with local businesses providing the prizes. The first race will be at 5:30pm. Ducks are £1 per race, and there are 120 ducks in each race. Watch them race down the river and cheer on your duck. The money raised goes to Wookey Church, and please remember to bring cash with you.
Do you buy custard powder, instant coffee, baking powder, vegetable bouillon powder, cocoa powder or instant hot chocolate? The containers are usually made of card or tin or a combination of both, and we need them for our August Art Project! Please save them from recycling, and leave them empty and clean at the back of Coxley Church, Henton Church or Wookey Church during July and August. (No plastic or glass sided containers.)
The Bible can seem like a confusing assortment of events, poems and wise words. The Bible Course explains how the parts of the Bible come together to reveal an eternal God who keeps his promises. Over 8 sessions we will journey through the sections and events of the Bible, and introduce key characters. Each session of The Bible Course uses video and discussions, but no prior knowledge is required and a course book is available. Our small rural benefice is grateful to the British Pilgrimage Trust for their generous support for our rogation walk Saturday 20th June 2026.A group of 10 people and 2 dogs walked from Coxley Church to Wookey Goat Farm as this year’s Rogation walk. A rogation walk is Christian tradition where the congregation and clergy walk through the parishes and bless the land, crops and local community – and in particular, the farmers. It’s a time to slow and remember that we are all stewards of the land. This year we stopped to pray at strategic points along our way – Revd Jan had prepared some beautiful prayers covering the rivers, land, farms, crops and of course all the lovely people and businesses in our benefice.Our merry gang ranged from 55 to 85 years! One member was delighted to have walked pretty much the whole way which is the furthest she has been able to walk after a long and prolonged leg injury. The walk gave her the courage to do so.Our highlights were being out in the wonder of creation and slowing down to enjoy each other’s company in a way we don’t get to do in the busy-ness of church life. The other highlight was certainly the delicious lunch of local produce including pork and goats cheese from the farm.Numbers were down this year and the age range much higher so we will revert to a Sunday Stroll followed by tea and cakes next year!
