The 16th Sunday after Trinity
This Sunday Christ Church has a service of Holy Communion at 10.30 am, followed we hope by coffee on the lawn outside.
If you are unable to join us, Rev Astrid has recorded a sermon for us which can be accessed by clicking on the link below. The link becomes live Sunday morning
Readings are James chapter 3 verses 13-Chapter 4 verses 3 and 7-8a True wisdom and Giving yourself to God
Mark Chapter 9, verses 30 to 37 Jesus tells the disciples to let little children come to Him,, because we all come to Jesus and God like little children
A copy of Astrid's sermon may be downloaded from our news page.
In the James reading, he states "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble". We should all remember that Jesus is the Servant King, and try and copy His example.

Prayers and intercessions for use at home
A prayer for these times, from Rev Dr Leslie Griffiths
“In all of the current troubles, and they are very serious troubles, looking inwards will only reveal the limits of our own resources, and lead to deeper fear and selfishness.
“Acting in love found from God in Jesus Christ will do the exact reverse. As we look out from ourselves in love, we can enable people to find the place of their nurture, not their historic place but a new place where they meet God and find his consolation.
“As we share our consolation the mother love of God will enfold them. As we love the poor, go and give to a foodbank, call on someone who is isolated, do their shopping, pray with and for them from a distance, we will find that we are deeply consoled by our own gift of consolation."
- Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury
Learning God's love and seeking to share it
The Blessed Virgin Mary in Portbury is a living breathing church, not a 900 year old museum. There are strong ties with the adjacent St Mary’s V.A. Primary school. In addition to the many varied church services there is a strong focus on community with activities and events happening regularly.
