About Us

All Saints Church has stood in the heart of Lopen since the 12th century, making it one of the oldest buildings in the village. Much of what you see today dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, with the north transept added in 1833 and a significant Victorian restoration carried out between 1874 and 1886.

Built from local hamstone with slate roofs and a distinctive small bell turret housing two bells, the church is a Grade II* listed building — recognised as being of particular architectural and historic importance. Inside, visitors can see a reconstructed panel from the Lopen Roman Mosaic, a striking link to the village's much older history.

All Saints sits within the benefice of Merriott with Hinton, Dinnington and Lopen, in the Diocese of Bath and Wells. We're proud custodians of this remarkable building, and welcome visitors keen to explore its history as much as those coming to worship.

Limited parking is available near the church; additional parking is available for special events with support from our kind neighbours.  There is also street parking available a short walk away.

Access notes — There are steps into or up to the school room depending on whether you use the front or side entrance.  The ground is a bit uneven but also paved.
