We have a new Rector - Andy Froud. Andy was instituted by the Bishop of Burnley and inducted by the Archdeacon of Burnley at a special service at St Michaels on Monday evening. There was a full church consisting of members of the three churches and many from Clitheroe where Andy was the Rector.Andy now leads the benefice which is the group of three churches in our area - St Mary's Trawden, Christ Church Colne and St Michael's Foulridge. Andy and his family have moved to live at Christ Church vicarage.Bishop Philip gave an uplifting sermon welcoming Andy to his new post and asking the congregation to renew their faith. The Bishop, who has recently been appointed as the next Bishop of Blackburn (the Diocesan Bishop), also repeated his commitment to growing the Church in Lancashire and asked us all to play our part in this.Andy will continue his role as Chaplain to the 6th Form at St Christopher's Accrington, and is also a Canon of Blackburn Cathedral. He is a keen runner, and people may already have seen him around the village and in the shop and library. Do say hello and welcome him if you meet him.
St Mary's raises all of its money from members of the congregation, local people and fund raising events. This money is spent on the costs of a vicar (we share these costs with two other churches), a very small proportion on central diocesan costs such as child protection, and a large amount on maintaining our lovely Victorian church building.None of the money that we raise goes to the central Church of England, which is a question that I'm often asked. We do receive non financial support from the CoE, and are very grateful to have received a one off contribution to help with increased energy costs. The best way that you can support the only remaining church in Trawden is by signing up to the Parish Giving Scheme and donating whatever you can afford every month. If you don't feel able to do this and attend a church service, or visit on a Thursday when the church is open, you can give a contactless donation on the CollecTin located near the entrance doors. Alternatively cash is always welcome either in the glass jar or on the collection plate. We can claim an extra 25% of your donation from the tax man if you use Parish Giving Scheme and are a UK tax payer, but also for contactless and cash donations.Recently we have undertaken major repairs to our roof, replastered some ceilings that were falling down, replaced some rotten windows and removed some trees that were either rotten or causing damage to the church, Further expensive work in the near future is required to our lovely stained glass windows and to repointing to stop some penetrating damp. However we need to raise more money for this work. Please help. Any questions please contact Paul Wilson on 07950 316879 or post@wycoller.com or one of the church wardens.
We have recently purchase a CollecTin which allows us to take contactless donations. A special arrangement allows us to continue to receive an extra 25% from the tax man on cardless donations. If you prefer giving this way then please do so, alternatively if you prefer cash then please carry on giving as before. If you feel able to, then regular giving using the new Parish Giving Scheme is the easiest way for both you and the Church. To use contactless giving just touch a button on the screen that shows the amount you would like to give from £5 to £20. To give a different amount select the option at the bottom of the screen and enter how much you would like to donate. Then touch your card on the card reader at the top of the CollecTin.Occasionally your bank may require the card to be used in the card reader with your PIN; this is a security measure. If this is needed then lift the flap at the top of the device and insert your card in the top of the card reader, then enter your PIN. This is also the way to donate if your card isn't enabled for contactless use.If you need help then please ask a sidesperson or church warden.
We have joined the Parish Giving Scheme (at no cost to you or us) which considerably simplifies the way that we claim this money from there government and gets it to us much faster.Details will be sent out to existing givers this autumn and all regular donors are encouraged to move over to the new scheme. However it is open now and you can sign up. Just remember to cancel any existing standing order once you have received confirmation that the new payment has been set up.To join follow this link: https://www.parishgiving.org.uk/donors/find-your-parish/trawden-st-mary-the-virgin-colne/
