Types of Services at St. Peter's

Holy Communion 10.00am (Contemporary Language)

‘Eucharist’ is the Greek word in the New Testament for ‘thanksgiving’, and from earliest times has been one of the titles given to the main act of Christian worship – the service of Holy Communion.

One of the great joys of being an Ecumenical church is that both Anglican and Methodist services follow the same basic format.

• The president (priest or minister leading the service) may wear vestments in keeping with the colour of the liturgical season and is assisted by other ministers

• The organ and or piano and sometimes a choir lead the congregation in singing different parts of the service, as well as the hymns.

• A sermon is preached

• The service usually finishes around 11.00am and refreshments are served afterwards

Morning Prayer 10.00am (Contemporary Language)

• The minister or a lay reader will be leading the service

• The organ or piano and sometimes a choir lead the congregation in singing the hymns (usually four hymns)

• There is usually a sung responsorial psalm

• A sermon is preached

• Sometimes the overhead screen will be used for the hymns and service words

• The service usually finishes around 11.00am and refreshments are served afterwards

Morning Worship 10.00am (Contemporary Language)

• The minister or local preacher will be leading the service

• The organ or piano and the sometimes a choir lead the congregation in singing the hymns (usually five hymns)

• A sermon is preached

• Sometimes the overhead screen will be used for the hymns and sermon

• The service usually finishes around 11.00am and refreshments are served afterwards

Café church

Usually held when there is a 5th Sunday

• a relaxed time for chat and discussion over good coffee and other drinks

• a bible reading

• activities

• prayers

• Short worship songs or Taizé songs led with the piano

• Overhead projection for the songs and service words

Messy Church

Held quarterly on a Wednesday, a great time for everyone whatever the age
