St Peter's Church, Newnham-on-Severn
Welcome to St Peter’s, Newnham on Severn - at this very difficult time when the spread of coronavirus Covid-19 is being countered across the world. This front page had outlined activities and services in the church building, but we've changed it because of the instruction given today (17th March 2020) by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York that church services and other activities must be suspended, to help stop the spread of the virus.
Part of their letter reads: "Public worship will have to stop for a season. Our usual pattern of Sunday services and other mid-week gatherings must be put on hold. But this does not mean that the Church of England has shut up shop. Far from it.
Being a part of the Church of England is going to look very different in the days ahead. Our life is going to be less characterised by attendance at church on Sunday, and more characterised by the prayer and service we offer each day. We may not be able to pray with people in the ways that we are used to, but we can certainly pray for people. And we can certainly offer practical care and support.
Please, therefore, join us in this great challenge; and pray for our Government and nation, for each other, and especially for those who work in our health and emergency services."
If you feel vulnerable please do not hesitate to ask for help: Revd Joe (01594 510165), or churchwardens Bev Bowles (01594 516476) or Jane Curtis (01594 516716). We have a long list of willing volunteers! We want to keep communication going, and we want to find ways to keep journeying together in our community.
We hope, too, that you can find other useful things on this site. If you've just moved into the village we've produced a 'Welcome to Newnham' pack which gives details of all of our organisations, clubs, facilities etc. and a map. Do get in touch if you'd like a welcome pack, if you need more information or you want to talk anything through - see our contact details on the 'Who's who at St Peter's' page. We've been here a long time and hope that you can find a place here too and become part of the story of this place with us.
