Church of England Diocese of Gloucester Newnham

St Peter's Church, Newnham-on-Severn

Welcome to St Peter’s, Newnham on Severn! We are a friendly and active church, integral to the village community, welcoming people of all ages and abilities. It is the largest building in the village, set on the cliff overlooking the Severn, and in normal circumstances is a good place for meals, concerts, Burns Night and all sorts of things.

We are just at the beginning of the process of appointing a new vicar! We would like to consult as widely as possible with the church and village community about what qualities you would look for in our new incumbent. If you would like to let us know your thoughts, please send us a message or email one of the churchwardens:  [email protected] or [email protected]

It’s so good that we’re allowed to hold church services again after the pandemic restrictions were lifted. Churches throughout the country are starting fairly slowly, and St Peter's is starting with four services each month: a Communion Service at 10am on the 1st Sunday, Morning Prayer at 10am on the 3rd, and Communion at 10.15am on the 1st and 3rd Thursday. We certainly hope to return to weekly services later in the year. The church is also open every day (with required restrictions) from about 9am until about 5pm – do come in to look round or just for a quiet moment.

The safety guidelines will make the services seem slightly odd at first. It’s essential that contact details of everyone who comes is kept for 21 days, that hand sanitiser is used, and that seating is spread out. But everyone is so welcome.

If you feel vulnerable please do not hesitate to ask for help: Revd Joe (01594 510165), or churchwardens Bev Bowles (01594 516476) or Jane Curtis (01594 516716). We have a long list of willing volunteers! We want to keep communication going, and we want to find ways to keep journeying together in our community.

We hope, too, that you can find other useful things on this site. If you've just moved into the village we've produced a 'Welcome to Newnham' pack which gives details of all of our organisations, clubs, facilities etc. and a map. Do get in touch if you'd like a welcome pack, if you need more information or you want to talk anything through - see our contact details on the 'Who's who at St Peter's' page. We've been here a long time and hope that you can find a place here too and become part of the story of this place with us.
