Church of England Diocese of Gloucester Newnham

About Us

The Bishop of Gloucester and Churchwardens are pleased to announce the appointment of Revd Rachel Saum as ‘Priest in Charge’ of the benefice of Newnham on Severn with Awre and Blakeney.  She will be licensed at the Induction Service in St Peter's, at 7pm on 28th July.

Rachel has a BA in theology, ministry and mission and an MA in Youth ministry, she has a great passion for the environment with a BSc in Environmental Geoscience. Rachel was ordained in the diocese of Coventry in 2017 where she went on to serve as a curate. She describes her theology as broad based and inclusive. Rachel currently lives in Devon, where she has been taking a break from ministry, following her passion for horticulture by volunteering as a gardener at a local college. Outside Church she can be found walking, bird watching, gardening, baking and cooking, knitting and sowing.

This is an exciting time for each parish and the benefice with many possibilities and new opportunities. Rachel joins and will lead a strong established ministry team, forward-thinking parishes and a benefice wanting to work together and support one another.
