St Mary the Virgin Fretherne
25 September 2023 - We are very sorry to announce that access to the Church is now by arrangement only.
Sadly one of our windows was broken by having a stone vase thrown through it, probably during the night of 22nd September. This has left the window in a very fragile state with broken glass not completely attached so it is necessary for us to be aware of any visitors to the church so that we can make sure that they have information on which parts they can safely access inside before they enter. Please contact us on 01452 740891 or by email at [email protected].
August 2022 - Ecochurch Award We are pleased to announce that we have achieved Bronze Level in A Rocha's EcoChurch award scheme.
Eco Church is a project of A Rocha UK – a Christian charity committed to mobilising all to care for nature. Since the charity was established in 2001 it has been practically involved in nature conservation.
Eco Church's aim is to create a vast network of churches as local centres of creation care in the community – shining beacons of hope for a brighter environmental future. The scheme has three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Within each level there are 5 sections covering everything from the church buildings to lifestyle choices made by our community. The questions challenge us to think about how everything we do affects our environment, and what changes we can make to help that effect to become a positive improvement.
Over the next 12 months we will be looking at the steps we need to take to achieve Silver Level.
January 2021 We are very grateful to have received a grant from Historic England's Covid-19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response Fund. The money will allow us to undertake more investigations on the condition of the tower and spire so that detailed plans can be prepared for the necessary restoration work.
We are proud to continue to be #HereForCulture.
We hope that you enjoy your visit. To help us all stay safe, please follow the guidelines for Covid-19 safety published at the church.
