The Gambia

                                               Gambian Projects Overseas
Let us introduce ourselves!

Gambian Projects Overseas was formed back in 2003 by a collection of like-minded friends in the UK. We want to provide support to communities across The Gambia.

G.P.O has made many friends over the last 19 years. We want to help establish self-sufficient and long-term projects across The Gambia. We want to continue helping communities but we can only do this with your help - we hope you can join us.

What we do?

At G.P.O, we focus on increasing children's access to education, through building new schools, installing computer suites for local communities and distributing teaching resources.

Our core values.

We focus on providing the tools to communities to make real long-term improvements.

Our mission.

To work & walk alongside our Gambian friends, assisting and enabling them to increase their knowledge & skills in order to move forward in their own chosen pathway.

January/February 2024 trip

Well, what an amazing three weeks we’ve had on our latest project trip to the Gambia.

All the project tasks were completed, and as usual, we’ve brought many ideas back with us to think about.

I am pleased to report though, we were able to complete all the planned tasks. These included electric wiring, computer room completion with internet, and solar-powered water provision for allotments.

One of the main projects of the trip was to complete the electrical wiring to the two new classes in the Annexe School, which have been built since the pandemic. This involved extending the electricity, which was already put in Sinchu Baliya school to the two new classrooms, giving them lighting, fans, and electrical sockets.

Plus, I’m very pleased to report also that the computer room that we installed has, at last, been connected to the internet via a local provider Netpage. This will not only be an invaluable resource for the children of the school but also the teachers and it’s hoped for the entire community, as an IT and learning centre. By paying a small charge, the community will have access to the internet in the local area for communication and education.

Lastly, we were able to visit several of the small garden allotments that we have been sponsoring since the pandemic and enhance the water supply via solar power-driven pumps from wells. This gives a more easily accessible supply of water not only for the allotments but also local communities.
