Remembrance Sunday
Jesus said “The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them, and you are my friends, if you do what I command you. This, then, is what I command you: Love one another” (John15:13,14,17)
Hymn
1. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home:
2. Beneath the shadow of thy throne,
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3. A thousand ages in thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
4. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guide while troubles last,
And our eternal home.
Let us remember before God and commend to his keeping, those who have died for their country in war; those we knew, and whose memory we treasure, and all who have lived and died in the service of humankind.
Ex-service Representative
They shall not grow old as we that are let grow old,
age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
we will remember them.
We will remember them
The two-minute silence signalled by the Last Post and the Reveille.
During the next hymn, wreaths are laid.
1. Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
The, darkness deepens; Lord with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim, it's glories pass away.
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not abide with me.
3. I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like Thyself my guide and strength can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
4. I fear no foe with Thee at hand to bless,
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.
5. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;
Heav’n's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
National Anthem
God save our gracious King!
Long live our noble King!
God save the King!
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the King!
Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted either by death or life, hear our prayers and thanksgiving for all whom we remember this day, fulfil in them the purpose of your love and bring us all with them to your eternal joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
