SAID MASS
On Remembrance Sunday our morning Mass is at the earlier time of 9:30am, it is a shorter mass than is normal to enable worshippers to attend the Remembrance Observance in the Memorial Gardens at 10:45am.
Join us as our community gathers for this year’s Remembrance Day Service to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served and gave their lives.
Our Act of Remembrance will begin at 10:45 AM at the War Memorial on Cross Street. Together, we will observe the National Two-Minute Silence, listen to the sounding of the Last Post, and lay our poppy wreaths in tribute. Following the outdoor service, the village will process together to the church for a short, reflective Remembrance service.

A Christingle is a symbolic object used in the Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany services of many Protestant denominations. It symbolises the birth of Christ, the Light of the World. A modern Christingle is made from a candle in an orange (representing the light and the world respectively) which is typically decorated with a red ribbon and sweets or dried fruit. It originated in Moravian Church in the middle of the 18th century and has been a feature in Moravian churches across the United Kingdom since before the World Wars. As members of Moravian churches moved away from their home congregations, they took the custom of Christingles with them and introduced it to other denominations. In the 1960s John Pensom adopted it as a fundraising tool for the Children's Society of the Church of England.
As the festive season approaches, churches across the UK are preparing for joyful celebrations. But for many, Christmas is not a time of cheer: it can be a season marked by grief, loneliness, or mental health struggles. That’s why Blue Christmas services and reflections can be helpful - to acknowledge those feelings and offer support to those who might be struggling.
The Church of England’s theme this year is Joy, but reflecting on joy doesn’t mean ignoring more difficult emotions and experiences. Part of reflecting on the Joy of Christmas is embracing the reality of the sadness and pain that we experience as we wait for that joy.
An event for ALL the family.
The children of Monk Bretton (and sometimes their parents) are going to act out the Christmas story, there's no rehearsal or lines to learn just a lot of fun as we start Christmas in our own traditional way. All of the children are invited to take part, there are costumes available but if they have already got something suitable that's absolutely fine. It's the rule that everyone must join in the singing! The church is always full for this event and for many people this marks the beginning of Christmas for them.
Look out for the big sheep!
Because the birth of Our Lord happened at night it is traditional to have a Mass at or near midnight, this is one of the most important services within the Christian Church. It also for some churches marks the point at which the Christmas season actually begins. Because many of our congregation don't want to be out late at night our Mass is held at 8:30pm and follows the traditional pattern of readings and carols with Holy Communion. Everybody is welcome to attend, whether you are a confirmed member of the Church of England or not.

A music and dance based activity for pre-school children.
Katy is classically trained in ballet, tap and modern dance and she has been teaching children to dance and enjoy exercise for many years. She is a very positive and high energy person having studied music, drama and performance at college level. Her group aims to create a space for families to come together and make memories with their children using music, and movement. She wants to unite our community with laughter and love. The sessions are aimed at pre-school children, you are guaranteed a warm welcome, you and they will feel safe and at ease.

2:00pm Babies (6 weeks to sitting)
