Last year we had some internal ceiling plaster fall. We commissioned a survey which showed the whole of the church ceiling was unsafe. As a result we had to close for several months. With the help of York Diocese and our Archdeacon we have been able to install netting to make the church safe whilst we plan the way ahead and start to raise the funds to help us repair and and protect this beautiful and ancient church. We are now open 24/7 and there is access from the B1248 or by a track through the woods off Station Road (on the Wolds Way) in Wharram le Street. We are a Pilgrim Place so there are things to read and to look at as well as the chance to make use of the self serve tea and coffee whilst you enjoy the peace of the church. . Come and experience this ancient heart of our community - the tower is over 1000 years old and it is a really special place where you are very welcome.
Our church is always open for services, to visitors and for private prayer. The current service list will be available in the church porch. We welcome everyone to visit our beautiful Grade 1 listed church with a Saxon tower in the lovely Yorkshire Wolds. Please enjoy a place of God which has been here for around 1000 years. It costs around £1300 per year to keep our church open and if you are able to help us resource our mission we appreciate your generosity - you can do so in person when you visit or by using the QR code on this website. Thank you! Please note there are no toilets at the church.
