Eco Tips for June: Caring for Birds and Reducing Waste

Caring for God’s Creation This June

At St Oswald’s, we believe that caring for the environment is an important part of our Christian faith. The Bible reminds us that the earth is God’s creation and that we are called to be good stewards of the world around us.

This month, our Eco Church Group encourages everyone to consider two practical actions that can make a real difference.

Protect Nesting Birds

During the spring and summer months, many birds are raising their young in hedges, trees, and shrubs. Wherever possible, avoid cutting or heavily trimming hedges between March and August. By leaving these habitats undisturbed, we help birds safely rear their chicks and support local biodiversity.

The natural spaces around us are home to countless creatures that depend on our care and consideration. Allowing a few areas to grow naturally can also provide valuable food sources for bees and other pollinators.

Rethink Summer Travel Toiletries

As holiday season approaches, consider swapping single-use plastic travel toiletries for solid shampoo bars, soap bars, or refillable containers. These alternatives reduce plastic waste, minimise leaks in luggage, and often last longer than traditional travel-sized products.

Small changes in our daily habits can have a positive impact on the environment and help reduce the pressure on God’s precious creation.

As Christians, we recognise that creation is a gift from God. Every action we take to protect wildlife, reduce waste, and live more sustainably is a way of expressing gratitude for that gift and showing love for our neighbours, both now and in the future.

Small choices. Big difference. Let us continue to care for God’s creation together.
