St Andrew (Chapel of Ease) Portslade

The Parish of Portslade and Mile Oak is currently in vacancy (Interregnum) and has no full time Priest at present.

The Parish has three churches, St Nicolas in Portslade's Old Village, The Church of the Good Shepherd in Mile Oak and St Andrew's in South Portslade.

In September 2013, St Andrew's status was changed to a "Chapel of Ease" and will only be used occasionally for religious services.

St Andrew Church was built in 1864.  The architect was Edmund Evan Scott who also designed St Bartholomew’s, Brighton, the biggest parish church in England.

In the 1870s the Revd Richard Enraght was the Curate-in-Charge he later became famous in England and the USA as a 'Prisoner of Conscience' for his Anglo-Catholic practices.

Portslade born, Bishop Walter Baddeley, DSO & Bar., MC & Bar., attended St Andrew's as a child, he was a highly decorated hero in both World Wars.

In May 2003 a major re-ordering was undertaken to provide a much needed Community Centre for South Portslade managed by the Community Association of Portslade (South) with an integral smaller St Andrew Church.

The Church was officially re-opened in July 2004 by the Bishop of Chichester and in September 2013, St Andrew's status was changed to a "Chapel of Ease".
