Welcome to St Helen's Church, Berrick Salome
Sunday 2 April 2023 - 11 am - Palm Sunday Procession! - Family Service
This Sunday, 2 April, is Palm Sunday, and we’ll start the family service with a joyous procession from the green outside The Chequers to the church, led by Basil, the Shetland Pony.
We’ll each be given palm crosses, which we can hold aloft as we process up to the church, singing 'All glory, laud and honour'.
10h45: Please leave your car in the church car park, walk down the lane, and gather on the green in front of The Chequers.
11h00: The palm crosses are blest, and the procession leaves the green, singing and hold up our crosses. We’ll walk up Church Lane to St. Helen’s and around the outside of the church, before going inside.
11h10 (or when we arrive!): The Family Service starts.
12-ish: refreshments, and an opportunity to meet Basil outside the churchyard. Monica will have little treats for you to give him (so no need to bring anything).
Pony etiquette:
If it is a bit rainy, please choose to wear hats/hoods in preference to using an umbrella (lots of umbrellas can be a bit scary for ponies). Basil loves children and is a very gentle and friendly pony, but he is an animal and therefore unpredictable, so please give him space. Monica will be our guide to pony-management!
REMEMBER:
Please come early enough to leave your car at church.
Do not park in the pub car park.
Remaining Lent and Easter Services
Good Friday: 7th April at 10.00 am: Good Friday Liturgy: A meditative service followed by Hot Cross Buns and coffee at Meadow Croft
Easter Sunday: 9th April at 11 am: Easter Day: Although this is the 2nd Sunday, on this occasion we shall be replacing the prayerbook service (BCP) with a child-friendly Communion Service, ending with an Easter Hunt round the churchyard.
Future Family Services for 2023 - 11 am on the first Sunday of the month
Our Curate, Mel, and our Vicar, Fr Michael, have been working on the Family Service themes for the rest of the year. These include animals, being creative, eating, and hunting treasure - see here for more details.

A Prayer by the Archbishop of Canterbury for Ukraine
God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
