On 27th June, our LLM Mandy Sarjeant was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Exeter, the Rt Reverend Mike Harrison, in an uplifting service in Exeter Cathedral. Rev'd Mandy is now licensed to the Kingsbridge Estuary Churches Mission Community as a locally deployed, self-supporting minister. We held a special service to welcome the new deacon in Dodbrooke the following day in which she was presented with a Bible, a volume of Common Worship and a beautiful embroidered stole.Mandy was privileged to have been part of the first cohort to come to ordination via the Exeter Ordination Pathway - an initiative by +Mike for people already serving n their parishes and who feel called to take this further and are recommended by their sending church.Mandy has lived and worked in and around Kingsbridge since she and her husband moved her in 1988. If you see her around town - do stop and have a chat!
Yes indeed, mice have been spotted in St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Dodbrooke! We should like to introduce our new MOUSE TRAIL. 10 wooden mice are hidden around the essential fittings of the church. Sheets at the back of the church will give clues to their hiding places and teach you a bit about the parts of a church in the process. Earn a sticker if you find them all.Our church is open every day so please pop in and you never know, you may catch the mice at play!Fun for all ages.
Ever since a large fruiting body was discovered in the chancel at St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Dodbrooke, we have been fundraising to raise the money needed for repairs to stop the water ingress, dry the church and eradicate the fungus. Thanks to people's generosity and the energy and creativity of Chris, our fundraiser who led the campaign and fronted such innovative events as Hats Off, the internal work has now been COMPLETED and Dodbrooke is once again fully open including the fully repainted and cleaned chancel. However, we are still fundraising as there are issues around the exterior which still need repair. We are very grateful to all who contributed or supported the fundraising events and we thank the specialist teams of work persons who have brought their expertise to this project.Dodbrooke is open every day so do feel free to drop by this precious, tranquil space - enjoy the peace of the churchyard or sit awhile in the church.
