Children and Young People

Children and young people are very important to us. We firmly believe that they are full members of the church of the present, not just of the future.

Children are welcome to all services. We love crying babies, and toddlers running around and can promise you that no one will frown at you! Breastfeeding is welcomed.

There are a variety of activities and opportunities for young people and children at St Mary Magdalene’s:

For younger children:

There are a selection of books, puzzles and toys should you feel the need to offer any distraction to your child. Please ask the steward on duty.

Messy Church:

Messy Church meets on the first Sunday of the month between 3pm - 5pm. All families are welcome for a time of crafts and games, worship in church followed by food.

Scouts and Guides:

St Mary Magdalene’s is closely related to Guide and Scout groups in Belmont. All of them meet in Belmont Parish Hall. There are occasional Parade services at festivals throughout the year. Children of all faiths and none are welcome to join these organisations.

Connections with schools:

We have good links with schools in the area, and are particularly closely linked with Belmont C of E Primary School, where the Vicar, curate and other members of the congregation are school governors.

Schools hold termly services in the church and the Vicar and other church members regularly take collective worship and   have Open the Book sessions. We are always happy to contribute to RE lessons and welcome visits from schools to the church.
