You are very welcome to join us for our Lammas service. Lammas Day (1st August) celebrated the first harvest of the year as the new loaves were brought into church to be blessed. Originally an Anglo Saxon festival, popular across Europe, it marked the beginning of a new season of harvests. The word Lammas is derived from Loaf Mass as the old Anglo Saxon festival was Christianised. The first grain harvested was milled and baked into bread and brought into Church to be blessed. It corresponds with the Hebrew Festival of Weeks when a sheaf from the barley harvest was offered, Leviticus 23:9; Deuteronomy 16:10-16. So come and find out more about this ancient festival.
After the service, a range of hot drinks and home made cakes and biscuits are available. Toilet facilities if required can be found at the adjacent Village Hall.
