Community events

What's coming up?

The “services and events” tab of this website provides, not surprisingly, details of various events connected with St John’s - mainly services. The Community events page aims not to duplicate that content but to say what’s coming up socially.

A brief diary of additional events -  for regular programme see below

Nothing for your diary just now.

What sort of social events are there? Here are notes to explain some of them -

[email protected]

[email protected] is at 3 pm on the first Sunday of every month in the church hall. It is a family-friendly entirely social event that includes a mini-Messy Church, craft activities and free refreshments. It is a chance for all ages to enjoy themselves, have fun, reflect, and eat together, bringing all sorts of people together whatever their faiths, if any. Everyone is welcome to come along and get involved..

Book Club

The Book Club is on Fridays in the Church Hall from 10 am (after the 9:30 Communion). It includes tea and coffee and conversation, and lasts for around 45 minutes.

Coffee and Conversation

A weekly coffee morning, meeting in the Church Hall on Fridays at 11 am. All welcome - including walkers! (We are sometimes on their route!)

Jingling Gate...

First Wednesday of the month at our local - purely social, though it's a good opportunity to float ideas or run things past (Priest-in-Charge) Matthew in an informal setting. The Choir usually pop in after practice (but don't sing!) All welcome.

Mothers' Union

Meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm in the church hall, but not in August. There is a varied programme of speakers, services and conversation. With refreshments! New members are warmly welcome.

The Men’s Group and the Women’s Group

These two groups meet for a chat and general conversation, the former on Saturdays at 10 am every 5 weeks at Dobbies Garden Centre, Ponteland, and the latter every first Tuesday in the month at The Chapel Park Public House from 8 pm. There’s nothing like exercising the vocal chords and putting the world to rights!
