Designed by James Eadie Reid our East window shows Christ in glory, surrounded by angels and seraphim with the faithful looking on. The same well-known artist and designer also designed our Lady Chapel window depicting the nativity of Our Lord."These are works of great beauty and sensitivity and invite us to reflect on the mysteries of our faith - that God becomes man in the Christchild and draws us into the life of heaven," says our parish priest, Fr George Spencer. A leaflet giving more details is available - see below. There will also be information about our unusual War Memorial featuring photographs of the 81 men who gave their lives in the Great War. The church will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with light refreshments and free of charge. All welcome.
Ravensthorpe in Bloom is committed to restoring pride in Ravensthorpe by improving the area. We are starting with the basics - picking up litter and encouraging everyone to not fly-tip or drop litter. We need a culture of looking after the place and re keen to recruit all like-minded people. We are also working with local schools and businesses, together with support from Kirklees council. If you want to get involved - and please do - find us on our Facebook "Ravensthorpe in Bloom" and send us a message. Thanks.
A PRAYER FOR UKRAINE Loving God, We pray for the people of Ukraine, for all those suffering or afraid, that you will be close to them and protect them. We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices. We pray for the world that in this moment of crisis, we may reach out in solidarity to our brothers and sisters in need. May we walk in your ways so that peace and justice become a reality for the people of Ukraine and for all the world. Amen. A Lenten Prayer Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing that you have made and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent: create and make in us new and contrite hearts that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may receive from you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, Amen
Litter, fly-tipping, crumbling curbstones, and bent railings combine with some street behaviours to make life in our community unpleasant. We need colour, smartening up and a sense of pride in Ravensthorpe to lift our spirits.Adults and children from Diamond Wood Academy (the school's Eco Committee) met to form the first General Meeting of Ravensthorpe in Bloom. A committee was duly elected, and now sets to sorting out how we can improve the street environment of Ravensthorpe. Things will begin with tidying up, proper waste management and improving the 'hard' landscaping. And we need to co-ordinate this with Kirklees Council's current roadworks. Can you come and help us, and be part of a groundswell of locals to turn the tide?Come and tell us what you would like to see, and what help you can offer. Look out for the first of our action days!for any further information please contact Fr George Spencer hospitalgeorge@gmail.com / 07388507282Facebook Group ; "Ravensthorpe in Bloom"
