Wildlife in our churchyard

We are very lucky to have such a beautiful churchyard with open views of the countryside.
The churchyard management is 'wildlife-friendly', and Sarah Sigsworth, a member of our PCC, scythes the grass by hand to encourage wildflowers and promote the wellbeing of inhabitants such as toads and voles!
Nesting boxes, a bird-feeding station and a small pond provide hospitality to visitors including white and red-tailed bumblebees, azure damselflies, frogs, shieldbugs and newts. Please do read her wildlife conservation update from April 2020.

We complete an annual 'Count on Nature' wildlife audit and also welcome comments and observations in the record book on the table inside church. We also had a 'Moth' survey in 2019 which successfully identified 21 different species of moths.
In January 2026 we collated all these records to create a 'Compiled Wildlife Audit' including over100 plants, 55 insects, 55 different birds and any other wildlife visitors which have been reported at any time in the churchyard. This is attached for your interest!

We have achieved the Silver Level Eco Church Award with the environmental charity A Rocha.  ecochurch.arocha.org.uk/. Our next challenge will be the Gold Level!
