Facilities and features

Accessibility

Separate Mens, women's and wheelchair accessible toilets off St Patrick's room at the East end of the church.

In the wheelchair accessible toilet.

To find the bike rack, follow these steps:

Locate the gate on Stanhope St that is next to the church on its left side.
Enter the gate and walk along the path until you reach the end.
Look for the wall on your left extending back and to the left of the entrance door to the church.
The bike rack is attached to that wall, near the corner.

We have a toilet adapted for wheelchairs.

We have recently upgraded our step-free access to the church which is available through the gate in the railings between the church and 120 Stanhope Street leading to the cloister door. Our main church and chapels are accessible, but our chancel has steps.

We have an induction loop; to receive sound from it, switch your hearing aid to the ‘T’ position.

Our Building

Grade II* listed Church (building ID 1290539).
Opened in 1881, this Victorian Gothic Church was designed by John Loughborough Pearson. Both it and St Alban's Academy grew from a religious and educational mission started by brothers James and Thomas Pollock in 1865, when this was a developing area of factories and poor housing on the edge of Birmingham.
Renewal of the roof was completed in 2020, aided by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We use clean energy for all our electricity and half of our gas. We also take care of our manage gardens to make them good for animals and plants. Where possible we have replaced our old lights will LED bulbs but the the hight level lighting in church is difficult to reach and modify.

Music and Worship

Do you love music? Then you will love our concerts and recitals at St Alban the Martyr. We have talented musicians who perform for us throughout the year. You can enjoy Royal Birmingham Conservatoire concerts for free (but we appreciate any donations for the church). And the fun doesn’t stop there. After the concerts, you can join us for some refreshments in St Patrick’s room. You can chat with the performers and other guests and make new friends. It’s a great way to spend an evening.
