Horsley: Holy Trinity
Newcastle
“Built in the Neo-Norman style by John & Benjamin Green in 1844. The original pine furniture was replaced in 1895 with oak fittings in memory of the original patron, the 2nd Lord Redesdale. The organ gallery was added in 2000 and a fine organ was imported from the redundant Methodist Chapel in Tow Law, Co.Durham, and has been lovingly restored. There is a Roman altar in the porch.”
We regret that the church is closed at present for repair work. We anticipate reopening in February 2021, as there is no in-person public worship in the team area in January due to the pandemic. Everyone is welcome to join the zoom worship at 9.30 am each Sunday - for a link, including the option of phone, e-mail [email protected]

Elsdon: St Cuthbert
Newcastle
Sadly, there will be no public in-person services in the team area during January, due to the pandemic. There will be a service by zoom (video or telephone link) every Sunday at 9.30 am to which everyone is warmly welcome. To receive a link, send and e-mail to [email protected]
The church building is open daily for private prayer and meditation - you are welcome to enjoy the peace of this beautiful building on any day (opening times approx 9 - 5). Hand sanitiser is provided. When permitted we worship in the church for Parish Communion on the second Sunday of the month at 11 am. Please bring a pen to sign in and wear a face covering. Seating is socially distanced, and the order of service will be on paper; offerings are placed on the plate as you enter; communion (in one kind) is offered.
We urgently need support to maintain the church building and to pay towards our share of the cost of ministry which supports the community at all times. You can donate on this page; by contactless giving or in the slot at the church; or by contacting Revd Elaine Ryder for the account details. Let us know if you wish your giving to be identified as supporting only the fabric and grounds or only the ministry, otherwise it will be available for use as needed.

Byrness: St Francis
Newcastle
“Built in 1793 and consecrated three years later, St Francis church was at one time the smallest parish church in the diocese of Newcastle. The stained glass window, installed in the south wall in 1903 commemorates those of the community who died during the period of construction of the nearby Catcleugh Reservoir and was paid for by their fellow workers. It is reputedly the only such window to include the depiction of a narrow gauge railway.”
We apologise that it is not possible to go into the church at present because the floor on the north side is unsafe due to rot. We are working to raise the funds to do a 'like for like' restoration of the woodwork on that side, after which the church will reopen for private prayer. If you are able to contribute, so that we can begin to use the church again soon, and start to gather funds for the south side, which will need doing next, please contact Revd Elaine Ryder ([email protected]) for details of the account, or donate from this site and let us know it is for this work. Services are held by zoom for the team area, at 9.30 am each Sunday - e-mail Elaine if you would like a link to the service.
