Each week at St Margaret's Church we celebrate the Eucharist in Church. We are now in a period including the beginning of Lent which then takes us to Holy Week and Easter. Please join us, you will be very welcome.

On the second and fourth Sunday of the month, St Margaret's Church hosts a Choral Evensong following the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) order of service. This is starts at 6.30pm unless otherwise indicated in the Newsletter.

New parent/carer support for those with babies and infants

From Monday 20th of February, at St Margaret's, we are launching a new parent/adult carer support time every Monday for parents, birth and adoptive, and all types of carers of infants.

Time to connect, refresh, be supported. Drop in with your little one - warm welcome and drink in your hand so you can take a break.

10am Zoom Worship

Mini Messy church takes place every Thursday morning at 10am in St Margaret's Church. It's an opportunity to have a cup of tea or coffee, connect with other parents whilst your toddlers can make use of the toys and resources, all under supervision by the session leader.

You are warmly invited to join us at 10.30am for an online get-together over a cup of coffee - a chance to chat, swap stories and maybe play a game together. To join in this event, go to the Zoom page on the menu to the left. You can join and leave in your own time.

We are going to run a Lent Group on Fridays from 10-11am using Paula Gooder’s 6 week Lent Course ‘The Joy of the Gospel’ https://www.chpublishing.co.uk/books/9780715147313/the-joy-of-the-gospel.

The first meeting will be Friday 24th February and we will then meet every Friday until Friday 31st March. Everyone is very welcome. The venue will depend upon numbers so please let Rev’d Maggie know if you would like to join. We can do a bulk order for books.

Violinist Joel Munday is swiftly building a career as a soloist and chamber musician. He maintains a busy concert schedule, and has given concerts across Europe, America and Asia. While his extensive repertoire incorporates all of the major violin works, he has a particular interest in exploring less-known and contemporary music. He has had the pleasure to work on the violin repertoire of Lera Auerbach with Vadim Gluzman, for whom it was written, and has himself commissioned new music from several next-generation composers, including Peter Clarke and Jonathan Hayward.

Bulgarian violist Vanessa Hristova performs internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and principal violist and has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, Cadogan Hall, London Coliseum, National Concert Hall Dublin and Bulgaria Hall. Recently she received first prize and the special prize at the XII International Music Competition Dobrich, second prize at the King's Peak Competition, third prize at the North London Competition D'addario String Prize. She is currently pursuing her Master of Performance there as an Elsie Gertrude Martin Scholar, in the class of Nathan Braude.

Open the Story - Every Second Sunday of the month. This event is for younger children and families and through activity familiar stories from the bible are enacted and played out.

Andrew Millington is a former Director of Music of Exeter Cathedral and an organ recitalist of wide experience. He has played in many major venues at home and abroad. His programme will include “Saraband for the Morning of Easter”-Howells, “Piece Heroique”- Franck and music by Bach, Mozart and Guilmant.

Topsham is to have its very own Classical Music Festival. This will happen between Friday 14th April and Sunday 16th April and is being organised by Nina Savicevic as part of her course work during the final year of her BMus studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

For this year, the venues will be St Margaret’s Church and Topsham Museum.

The concerts in St Margaret’s Church given by Adam Heron and Duncan Honeybourne will be by ticket only and all other concerts will be by donation at the end of the recital.
Nina has long dreamed of a Music Festival in Topsham and now with a little help from her friends and family it will happen. If successful Nina would like it to become an annual event.

A classical/jazz fusion concert given by jazz saxophonist Sam Lightwing

Heloise West, the South-West’s much-loved soprano, Mary Burman, mezzo from Exmouth, who has sung with major UK and Dutch opera companies, and David Davies, acclaimed organist of Buckfast Abbey. All have international performing careers.
Part of our money raised will be going to The Samaritans, Exeter branch, for whom Mary is trying to raise funds with any money that her songs generate.

The WOOD FARM Wind Quintet was brought together at the home of our flautist Robert some 15 years ago. With Robert we comprise Andrew (oboe), Chris (clarinet), Beth (horn) and Alan (bassoon). Our concert will present an entertaining and varied selection of music for this delightful combination.

The Organist Emeritus of Exeter Cathedral plays organ music by J.S.Bach, “Suite Gothique” by Leon Boëllmann, and the “Plymouth Suite” by Percy Whitlock. After a time at Christchurch, Oxford, Paul was organist of Exeter Cathedral for 41 years!

Topsham's community choir led by Sarah Pennington will sing for you in rich a cappella harmonies, sharing songs that lift the heart and feed the spirit. For a couple of songs they will be joined by singers from Sarah's new group, Exmouth Singing for Fun.

Joyce returns to St. Margaret’s for a Recital of Classical and Romantic Piano Music. Her programme will include one of Beethoven’s best-loved Sonatas, an atmospheric ‘gem’ from Debussy’s first book of “Images” and a dramatic, fiery Scherzo by Chopin.

Sax 22 : four saxophones and electric bass, is a group of players based in the SW who enjoy coming together to play a wide variety of music from Bach to Blues, Jazz Standards to Ragtime, as well as contemporary music. They perform at a variety of events: Christmas Markets, CIC centre (Taunton), weddings and local concerts.
