Many people rely on the sea for their livelihoods in different ways - food, transporting goods, tourism, keeping oceans safe, and supporting marine life. Sea Sunday is a special day for churches to remember all of these people and families who are connected with the sea, and the hazardous conditions that they face.

Welcome to our page on A Church Near You!

St Matthew's Church is a beautiful church in the village of Wookey, near Wells. We are part of a group of 3 churches and 4 parishes, known as a benefice, which are looked after by Revd Jan Shellard-James.

There are services almost every Sunday, with a Holy Communion without hymns on most of the 1st Sundays of the month. On the 2nd Sunday of the month, there is a Holy Communion or morning worship. On the 4th Sunday of the month there is Holy Communion.

On the 3rd Sunday of the month, we all join together to worship, and the location of services is rotated between the three churches in the benefice. If there's a 5th Sunday in a month, this is also a joint service, and rotated between the three churches in the benefice.

There is also a weekly Holy Communion service which is held every Wednesday.
