About Us

St Matthew The Apostle with Holy Trinity is an inclusive Anglican Parish Church which strives to welcome all. We seek to offer the best we can of traditional and more modern worship. We are probably best described as a ‘Liberal High Church' and have been recently recognised as an 'Inclusive Church'.

We welcome people of all ages to any of our regular weekly communion services. We are friendly and welcoming, so please feel free to come and enjoy our building and services. Stay for a chat after service and we can introduce ourselves to you.

Anyone who is a full member of any denomination may make their communion with us. Alternatively you can choose to receive a blessing, or take some time for quiet reflection if you do not choose  to receive communion or a blessing.

You can find more updates about our worship, events and activities on this website. We have our own Facebook group, where you are invited to join in with any prayers, services or social activities, taking place online or in person.

Please see the 'news' section for more information to find out what is happening, ways to be involved and stay in touch.

We have a play area in the church which is equipped with toys, books and games for small children. We really enjoy seeing families coming to experience our church. On the second, third and fourth Sunday of the month, we host the JAFFA Club (Jesus - A Friend For All). This is our family friendly group for children of primary school age to attend and enjoy some fun activities. On the first Sunday of the month, there is  an informal all-age service at 10.30 am.

St Matthew's plays an active part in parish life, hosting social events as well as special services such as Remembrance Day, Christmas events and various fetes, etc. There are also excellent links between the church and the local primary schools, uniformed organisations, local businesses and other churches and organisations across Burnley.

There is always help available, should you need it. The foodbank at St Matthew's Church is open every Saturday 9am-11am alongside a weekly free Breakfast Club. Please get in touch if we can be of any assistance.

We look forward to meeting you whether as a ‘one off’ or more regularly.
