Facilities and features

Accessibility

We have two toilets, with a seated stair lift access down a flight of stairs from the main church. (The toilets are next to the church hall, under the church, accessible for wheelchair users by going round the side of the building and coming in a side door.)
There is a small amount of room in one of the toilets for moving and changing but no additional equipment for adults.

There is a foldout baby changing table in one of the toilets. Some nappies, wipes etc are provided. The table is not suitable for children, only babies and small toddlers.

Although it is on-road parking, if early arrival is planned (or ask for reservations in advance) it is mainly flat wheelchair access from the road across the church ground to the main entrance. There is a small 2" step through the gate and a removable, but sturdy, ramp to enter the building.

We have access to the community defibrillator which is at the Post Office on Coal Clough Lane (3min run from the church).

Entrance from the road is via Harriet street, avoiding the need to climb the front set of steps. There is a 2"step at the gate and a removable ramp which fits the step at the main entrance to the church. The church hall is on street level and is therefore accessible directly, with a seated stair lift (for individuals not wheelchairs) up to the main church.

Hearing (induction) Loop

Liturgy is available up to font size 18. Please ask in advance if you would like the liturgy printed in larger font size.
The news sheet is a standard small size, but all information is emailed out before the Sunday and could also be printed in a larger size for you.

Music and Worship

During the year, various special events and services are held alongside the regular singing of the choir in the Sunday morning services.

St Matthews is blessed to have a regular wonderful organist as part of our congregation and our hymns are accompanied by his playing each week. He also plays at weddings, etc when requested.

9am service is Book of Common Prayer on first Sunday of the month

Our small choir sing each week at the 10.30 Sunday service, apart from 1st Sunday of the month which is a Parade service. Instead they have a sung Eucharist at 6.30pm that day.
