This year we are required by the Church of England to renew our Electoral Roll.
Why be on the Electoral Roll?
Being on St Mary's Electoral Roll is a way of saying 'I belong' to St Mary's Church. It entitles you to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) on 28th April and to stand for election to the PCC - the church's governing body - and for roles such as churchwarden.
Who can be on the Electoral Roll?
Any lay (i.e. not ordained) person who is baptised and over 16 years old can be on the Electoral Roll, provided that they live in the parish or have worshipped here regularly for at least six months. To have your name included on the Electoral Roll, please complete the form attached here - also available in church - and return it to Karen Smart via the church office by 13th April at the latest (and preferably by the end of March).
If your name is currently on the Electoral Roll you must re-apply as you will not be automatically transferred to the new roll.
The Church family
One of the special things about St Mary's is the sense of family we find here, a family of very different people who are drawn together by Jesus' love for us and our desire to follow him. I hope that you will not only want to be on the Electoral Roll, but will also be prayerfully asking God how else he is calling you to be part of the body of Christ here. This means thinking about how you can get more involved in taking part in our worship and mission and reflecting on how you can use your gifts and talents to serve God at here. I would also encourage you to pray about your financial giving: if you have not signed up to a regular giving scheme, please consider if God is calling you to do this. If you are a regular giver, please consider if God is asking you to increase your giving. Our Treasurer Simon Burmester would be delighted to speak to you if you have any questions about giving to St Mary's.
This is an exciting time in the life of St Mary's Church and we have much to thank God for. I look forward to continuing to work with you as we seek to discover who God is calling us to be and what he is calling us to do as his church.
