Memorial Book

The memory of a loved one is very precious and dear. For many people, the holding of memories is made more tangible and real if the name of the deceased is inscribed in a certain place, such as on a gravestone or in a memorial book.

A question frequently put to us at St Margaret's is whether it is possible to have a permanent memorial to a deceased loved one who has a connection with the parish. Unfortunately there is no burial ground in South Wonston, so burials or the interment or scattering of ashes must take place either in a different churchyard (if there is a family plot), or in the city cemetery, or at a crematorium.

However, at St. Margaret’s we do have a beautiful Memorial Book in which the names of parish residents who have died can be permanently recorded. St. Margaret’s Memorial Book is for all who live in the Parish of South Wonston or who have had a connection with St. Margaret’s Church. The Book is housed in a glass-fronted display case inside the Chapel and is available for viewing most days during school term time, or at other times by arrangement.

Names of individuals are beautifully inscribed by a professional calligrapher and are arranged according to calendar month. If you would like the name of a loved one who has died in the last two years included, and would like to request the applicable form to complete, or indeed if you have any other query related to the Book, then please contact Mary Cleal:
