Advent Carol Service at St George the Martyr, Southwark

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
St George the Martyr, Borough High Street
Address
Borough High Street Southwark London, SE1 1JA, United Kingdom

As the days grow shorter and the evenings draw in, join us at St George the Martyr for our Advent Carol Service.

Advent is a season of waiting and expectation, a time to make space for stillness, wonder and hope as we prepare for the coming of Christ.

Through beautiful choral music, familiar Advent hymns, scripture readings and candlelight, we enter the mystery of this holy season together.

With music sung by the Godwine Choir, the service takes place in the beautiful surroundings of our historic church, which has stood at the heart of Southwark's life for centuries.

Whether you worship with us regularly, are visiting for the first time, or simply want to experience the beauty and atmosphere of Advent, you are warmly welcome.

Come as you are. Bring a friend. Begin Advent with us.

St George the Martyr, Borough High Street

St George’s is a welcoming, vibrant world-diverse, inclusive church. We worship in the catholic tradition of the Church of England and the Mass or Eucharist is central to our identity. We have deep roots in tradition and deep roots in our neighbourhood: beautiful worship is our aim, yet this is never at the expense of being real about who and where we are. We are reverent but unfussy, serious about the sacred mysteries but with smiles on our faces and laughter in our bellies.

The Liturgy (the structure of the service) has been passed down to us and we receive it as a gift that holds and sustains us in all of our mess, unbelief, reverence and longing. We have a rhythm to our worship, a pattern that keeps us rooted in the mysteries of faith no matter what is going on for us personally or collectively.

Don’t worry if you feel like you don’t know what to do in a church service. Come as you are, sit, stand, kneel as you wish and just go with the flow, there is no judgement here. Come and feel at home in the conscious presence of God.
