Remembrance Sunday 2026 | St George the Martyr, Southwark

Occurring
for 2 hours
Venue
St George the Martyr, Borough High Street
Address
Borough High Street Southwark London, SE1 1JA, United Kingdom

We will remember them.

On Remembrance Sunday, we gather as a community to remember those who have lost their lives in war and conflict, to honour their sacrifice, and to pray for peace in our world.

Join us at the War Memorial on Borough High Street for our annual Act of Remembrance, including the traditional two-minute silence, before gathering at St George the Martyr for a Requiem Mass.

As we remember the fallen, we also hold in prayer all those whose lives continue to be shaped by war: those serving in the armed forces, veterans, families who grieve, and communities across the world living with the consequences of conflict.

Order of the morning

10:45am – Gather at the War Memorial
11:00am – Act of Remembrance, including the two-minute silence
11:30am – Requiem Mass at St George the Martyr

Our church has stood at the heart of Southwark for centuries, witnessing generations of the borough's history. Remembrance Sunday offers an opportunity for our whole community to come together in gratitude, reflection and hope.

Whether you are a regular member of our congregation, connected to the armed forces, or simply wish to join your neighbours in remembrance, you are warmly welcome.

We will remember them.

St George the Martyr, Borough High Street

St George’s is a welcoming, vibrant world-diverse, inclusive church. We worship in the catholic tradition of the Church of England and the Mass or Eucharist is central to our identity. We have deep roots in tradition and deep roots in our neighbourhood: beautiful worship is our aim, yet this is never at the expense of being real about who and where we are. We are reverent but unfussy, serious about the sacred mysteries but with smiles on our faces and laughter in our bellies.

The Liturgy (the structure of the service) has been passed down to us and we receive it as a gift that holds and sustains us in all of our mess, unbelief, reverence and longing. We have a rhythm to our worship, a pattern that keeps us rooted in the mysteries of faith no matter what is going on for us personally or collectively.

Don’t worry if you feel like you don’t know what to do in a church service. Come as you are, sit, stand, kneel as you wish and just go with the flow, there is no judgement here. Come and feel at home in the conscious presence of God.
