Thursday 8th February from Revd Louise

hello all,

there are hearts everywhere reminding us of St Valentine's Day approaches, the season of love in the air!

In the church we celebrate many diverse types of love, as well as romantic, eros love.

There is filial love, the type that strengthens family bonds. There is also agape love, which is seen as the strongest type of love. Here's a beautiful definition: 'kind of love and action that shows empathy; extends the desire for good of the beloved; wants the best; extends help or demonstrates good intentions; and is intended for everyone.'

The type of loving connection I see forming in community in gatherings such as mini messy church and in forest school, and I see it elsewhere too, is what sustains my faith belief that we are all of us in the image of God.

It's this theme that I will use this Sunday in forest school Open the Story; starting with the tried and tested game of twenty questions that will help us identify some great Bible characters who are renowned for how loving they are. I will send through their biographies, in brief, to have a look over if any families want to check them out in advance; and if you aren't coming, then they may help for homework or the like.

Looking ahead to our family service, I will be on sabbatical by the end of the month so our archdeacon, Andrew Beane, is really looking forward to leading that service and enjoying the generous spirit that is characteristic of that service.

I shall miss you all during March-May and shall enjoy sabbatical rest and time for study and renewal.

Caryll and Peter Ingerslev have oversight of all our family outreach and services whilst I am away, so please do contact them if you have any questions or ideas or offers of help.
