Our Lent study course, Healing and Hope, continues on Thursday evenings (7-30 pm) and our Lent Lunches are taking place on Saturdays (from 12-00 noon), both at St Andrew’s Parish Room in Weston. All of this serves as part of our preparation for the most important festival of the Church’s year: Easter.Easter is the special time of year when we remember that Jesus gave his life for us on the cross, so that we can enjoy eternal life with God when our time on earth is done. On the third day, so the Gospels teach us, Jesus’ friends discovered that his body was no longer in the tomb – Jesus had risen from the dead! In this great act, which we call the resurrection, Jesus paved for the way for us to share in his risen life. Christians have held on to this faith over the past 2,000 years, and have commemorated Jesus’ death and celebrated his resurrection in many different ways. Here, in our Mid-Trent Churches, we will be sharing a number of these – some very traditional, others more modern, but all will celebrate the great act of love which Jesus has done for us – and you are very welcome to share in these celebrations with us.During Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday (24th March) and lead up to Easter Sunday (31st March) we will have special services, some of which might be new to you. At St James the Great, Salt, we will keep the “Easter Triduum”, a very traditional service spread over three days: Maundy Thursday, when we recall Jesus’ Last Supper with his friends; Good Friday, when we reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross and remember his death; and Holy Saturday, when we gather after dark and celebrate the light of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Much less formally, St Andrew’s will be leading Good Friday Workshop with children from St Andrew’s School and their families. And for those who are ‘early birds’, you are invited to watch the sun rise with us at the Easter Light on Easter Day morning at Fradswell Village Hall, where the Church community will gather just before dawn (6-00am) for a celebration followed by a shared breakfast. There are lots of other services across our Churches during Holy Week, too: I hope you will be able to join us at one (or more) of them. With every blessing for a holy Lent and a joyful Easter, Danny
