Hatfield Broad Oak: St Mary the Virgin
Following the licensing service held at St Mary's on 23rd July 2020, we are pleased to welcome Rev Dawn Jewson as Priest in Charge of Hatfield Broad Oak and Bush End, and Rev Canon David Herrick as Associate Priest in Charge of Hatfield Broad Oak and Bush End.
At the same service, Rev Dawn was also appointed Associate Priest in Charge of Great and Little Hallingbury (currently Rev David's Churches) and Rev David was appointed Associate Priest in Charge of Hatfield Heath and Sheering (Rev Dawn's Churches). These appointments forge even closer, the links for all our 'Six Villages', and we look forward to what God has in store for us all.
As you will be aware, we in HBO are now in Tier 4 and there has been an increase in the number of positive tests within our village. Dawn, David and Caroline have taken the decision that despite the “rules” allowing worship to continue inside the church, it is sensible and right to protect the safety of worshippers and therefore until further reviews, our services will return to 'Zoom'. From 3rd January these will be held at 11:15am. For more details please contact us on [email protected]
We have also taken the difficult decision to close the church for private prayer. Again, this will be reviewed regularly and you will be notified of any change to this.
As soon as we are able to come together again to worship in person, we will publish a schedule of services so that you will be able to see what type of service is being offered at which church across the Six Villages. Holy Communion may not always available here at St Mary's, but will always be available at one of our churches (Bush End, Hatfield Heath, Sheering, Great Hallingbury or Little Hallingbury).
On months where we have a fifth Sunday, we join together with the other churches in our 'Six Villages' unit for a Communion Service and usually a 'bring and share lunch'. We hope that we shall be able to worship together again very soon.
Rest assured you will always be welcome. After every service (in normal time) there is always the opportunity for refreshment and a chat.
Across congregations are people of every age from babes in arms to 90+, so do come and join us: there'll be someone else just like you on the look-out for God!
May God Bless you and keep you and your loved ones safe.
Our churchwardens are Mr Mark Haddon and Mrs Liz Webber; our Verger is Mrs Edna Halls and our PCC Secretary is Mrs Kerry Stedman.
