Eco Church - learn more

This page is under construction.... please do come back later....

Eco Church is an initiative run by the A Rocha organisation, to facilitate churches, cathedrals and whole dioceses to help the Church of England reach Net Zero by 2030. The Eco Church scheme provides points for making small or large changes on the path to caring more for our environment. The first level Award for progress is Bronze, followed by Silver and Gold.

OUR AWARD

In 2022 we achieved our silver award and there are various projects still running with Eco Church in mind:

SPOTTED IN THE CHURCHYARD

Two younger members of our congregation started a monthly report on two things they had spotted in the churchyard.  Although they are older now, the tradition still continues.  To see what has been most recently spotted, please open the document at the bottom of this page.  The information is also put on the notice board in church and it is also included in the Parish Magazine.

THREADS OF DIGNITY

Since 2021 we've had an outreach programme lead by Lynne Vercoe, who attends our Cafe Church and has a passion for helping others who are not so fortunate as us.  Events are held three times per year for the community to come together (no matter their faith) at the local hall to handmake sustainable sanitary pads, and the bags for them to go into.

WOOLLEY WEDNESDAYS - Community Blanket Project

Every Wednesday afternoon (2pm-4pm) you will find a team of knitters at the local countryside pub - making knitted squares into blankets which are being sent to Ukraine.  This group has been sending blankets since the war crisis started.

At the beginning of 2026 another 52 adult blankets and a number of cot blankets were collected for shipping - bringing the total sent to over 200!  To see a photo and read a pervious article about the group achievements, visit this White Horse News page.

If you are interested in joining this friendly community group we would love to see you, no matter your faith. You can either pop in to see Penny Hill, who heads up the project on a Wednesday afternoon at The Weavers, Dilton Marsh, or send an email to Lynne:   [email protected].  If you love to knit but would prefer to make some squares from home, this can be arranged too.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to The Weavers for accommodating us and for having such lovely drinks (and food) on the menu to keep us going!  We especially would like to thank the kindness of the students from Fairfield College (in Dilton Marsh) who undertake regular training at the pub and make us feel so welcome.
