Fete success despite yellow weather warning

With threats of torrential rain, thunderstorms and high winds out annual fete on 7th June. Looked like being a wash out. So the day before we decided to transfer as many stalls and sideshows into the Church itself and to put one of our marquees on the new terrace alongside the Church extension  to house more stalls in the dry. On Saturday morning we erected our other marquee near to the terrace without adding the side which allowed us to run the bowling side shows; China smash and BBQ whilst keeping the participants dry. In the end the storms didn’t start until a half hour before we were due to close. Publicity through Facebook assured people that they were not going to get soaked and they turned up and packed the carpark. It was great to have the Church packed with chatting adults and excited children even if it was a bit crowded at times! With Hoopla beside the altar rail, roll-a-10p across the choir pews,  hook-a-duck at the foot of the pulpit, cakes around the font, a Tombola on the chancel steps and a huge raffle on boards across the nave pews we used every inch and it was very different to the normal ordered appearance of our Church.  It was certainly a flexible use of our ancient Church and probably more like its very early use. We received great feedback and raised an excellent profit of £1622 towards maintaining this beautiful old people. All was returned to normal in time for Pentecost celebrations the next morning thanks to a wonderful band of volunteers.
