On Friday 18 July Bethan Cheshire, a member of the congregation of All Saints' Church, displayed her musical talents in a fabulous concert entitled 'From Rosin to Reed' in the Wiltshire Music Centre. Bethan has just finished her first year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow studying the bassoon. Last year she won the Liz Lawrence Prize from Wiltshire Rural Music. Part of the prize includes putting on a concert to showcase their talents. Bethan was joined by family members, teachers and friends and played a wide range of musical styles from Mozart to Nellie the Elephant! Bethan played not only the bassoon but also the cello and piano. She demonstrated her prowess in all three instruments. Several members of the congregation were in the audience and all agreed that Bethan has amazing talents and enjoyed the concert immensely. We wish her success in her future musical career.
"Come follow me" Jesus said," and I will send you out to fish for people" Mark 1:17Our June meeting saw us combining with All Saints' Mothers' Union for our annual "Quiet Day" led by Revd. Margaret Davies. The day began with Holy Communion with Revd. Rebecca Harris officiating. After a coffee break, a circle of us gathered to listen to Revd. Margaret explaining the theme for the day which was:"ins and outs, ups and downs and roundabouts." An equilateral triangle representing us as equally made up of Spiritual, Physical and Mental parts, formed the basis of our listening, as well as our thinking and discussing. Amongst the discussions, we thought about what was important in our own lives as well as the life of the church. Which aspects were, or should be, in and which ones were, or should be out in the "ups and downs " of our lives and that of the church. Where did we think we would find Jesus if we were on an escalator going up and life was good, while many others were going down when everything seemed to be going against them. On roundabouts, where do we turn off? Which direction should we take? A very interesting day with Revd. Margaret's usual selection of readings and poetry giving us plenty to consider in our own lives as well as our local churches. We were also able to celebrate Revd. David's forthcoming 90th birthday as well as a younger birthday for Jocelyn, with a birthday cake for each of them. Forthcoming events include. The Triennial Festival at Salisbury Cathedral on June 20th. ( A report will be included next month) our outing to Tewkesbury Abbey on Thursday July 3rd. and looking ahead we have our Garden Party at Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday August 9th.God welcomes us just as we are, so let us have faith and reach out with confidence. Enid Holbrow.
