Hymns & Music for 24th January recorded by Mel, St. Paul's Church Organist

Mel, St. Paul's Church Organist writes thus about her selection of hymn music for this week:

The hymns this week encompass a vast style range from the sublime words and music of a pair of Wesleys, words by Charles and tune by his grandson, Samuel Sebastien, to the rumbustious joy found in the South African song “Siyahamba”. The Zulu word translates as “we are marching/walking”. Even I allowed its infectious high spirits to overcome my natural reserve, and that might have dented what little musical good taste I possess!

The Wesley hymn “O thou who camest from above” links to this week’s Gospel reading from Mark and the beginning of Jesus’ Galilean ministry and Mrs Alexander’s hymn “Jesus call us..” continues the theme of the calling of the fishermen disciples.
